Shop Intentionally: Why Supporting Independent Designers Matters More Than Ever
Tired of Making Billionaires Richer? Support Creators Over Corporations
Find out why more shoppers are choosing indie fashion brands, emerging designers, sustainable fashion, and ethical clothing over mass-produced alternatives:
Lately, I've been seeing a lot of people talking about "stopping support for billionaires."
I get it.
It feels like every time we buy something, we're sending more money to the same handful of massive corporations while independent artists, designers, and makers struggle to get noticed.
The weird part is that most people don't actually want that.
Most of us would rather support real people.
We'd rather buy from someone who designed the piece, sketched the idea, sourced the fabric, packed the order, and built a business from scratch.
That's part of why I started Riverspell.
I love discovering independent designers and emerging brands that create things you won't find everywhere else. Not because they're trendy. Because they have a point of view.
The internet was supposed to make it easier for small businesses to compete. Instead, it often feels like we're all being funneled toward the same giant retailers, the same algorithms, and the same products over and over again.
Fashion has become increasingly homogenized.
Walk through any mall and you'll see versions of the same thing repeated again and again.
Meanwhile, some of the most interesting sustainable fashion, ethical fashion, and indie fashion brands are hidden beneath pages of search results and social media algorithms.
The truth is, shopping small isn't just about being nice.
It's about keeping creativity alive.
Every time you choose an independent designer, a small batch clothing brand, or a made-to-order piece instead of another mass-produced item, you're helping create a world with more originality in it.
You're voting for creativity.
You're voting for freedom of expression.
You're voting for art.
And no, this doesn't mean you have to throw away your entire wardrobe or become a perfect conscious consumer overnight.
I certainly haven't.
But if you're already buying clothing, why not buy something with a story behind it?
Why not support an independent designer instead of another corporation?
That's what Riverspell is about.
A place to discover independent designers, sustainable clothing brands, wearable art, and emerging fashion labels creating beautiful things on their own terms.
Many of the brands we feature prioritize sustainable and ethical practices because they care about the impact they're making, not just the profits they're generating.
I don't want a future where everything is made by the same corporations, sold by the same retailers, and designed by the same algorithms.
I want a future with artists.
I want a future with creativity.
I want a future where independent designers can thrive.
Because at the end of the day, every dollar we spend is a vote.
