Philine of San Francisco
Philine Rauh, the daughter of two artists, grew up in gorgeous Marin County, California. Being surrounded by art and creativity it became her passion to become a designer. She began as an apprentice at Indru's Tailoring in San Rafael, then moved to New York City where she graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute. Philine worked in the garment industry for several importers where she learned the business, traveled all over Asia and Europe conducting market research and designing seasonal collections.
Philine returned to the San Francisco Bay Area where she raised her two daughters and worked as the Design Director for San Francisco City Lights, A domestically produced active wear line. She enjoyed the hands on approach to design, later going on to create their very successful yoga line and city tech performance wear.
Philine moved over to Rainbeau, a mass market importer, where she was the creative force behind four seasonal collections as well as managing several key private label accounts. After leaving Rainbeau she became a pioneer in organic clothing with Blue Canoe.
In recent years, Philine returned to fine tailoring for Nordstrom. It was there while working closely with other tailors who were immigrants that she reconnected with the story of her mother's journey and rekindled her love for coats. Her coat line is designed to celebrate global unity and honor the different cultures who search for a better life.
